I’ve been teaching most of my life. As an undergraduate student at the University of Colorado I taught Improvisation classes, a Performing Arts Teaching Workshop, and conducted one the two Jazz Bands. I’ve done clinics and Master classes around the United States and in Peru, and taught on an interim basis at the University of Southern California, and the California Institute of the Arts.
Currently I’m on the faculty at World Mission University in Los Angeles, where I teach private lessons in piano, jazz vocals and composition, a Contemporary Music Ensemble, and a World Music Class. I also taught at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California, for nearly thirteen years. While on the faculty there I taught privately, in the classroom, worked with ensembles, and taught Special Topics in Music Courses of my design. These courses ranged in topic from the music of J.S. Bach to the musical life of Miles Davis, as well as courses on Transcription Study and Re-Harmonization.
I’m proud to be part of the distinguished artists represented on the My Music Master Class website. The links below will lead you to lectures on Transcription Study and Improvisation form a Horizontal perspective.
