Teaching

I’ve been teaching most of my life. As an undergraduate student at the University of Colorado I taught Improvisation classes, a Performing Arts Teaching Workshop, and conducted one the two Jazz Bands. I’ve done clinics and Master classes around the United States and in Peru, and taught on an interim basis at the University of Southern California, and the California Institute of the Arts.

Currently I’m on the faculty at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California, where I have the opportunity to teach privately, in the classroom, work with ensembles, and teach Special Topics in Music Courses of my design. These courses have ranged in topic from the music of J.S. Bach to the musical life of Miles Davis, as well as course on Transcription Study and Re-Harmonization.

I’m proud to be part of the distinguished artists represented on the My Music Master Class website. The links below will lead you to lectures on Transcription Study and Improvisation form a Horizontal perspective.
